Today was one of those days where nothing I needed to do was working out right, so instead I followed an urge down a rathole and worked out the innards of an octopus mermaid (I no longer call them cecaelia because Sfé gave a good argument about how that is a bogus name and I agree).
I wanted to work in both siphons and beaks, since I don’t see those features on octopus monsters very often for some reason. It’s probably totally bogus but WHATEVER I filled my Google search bar up with all sorts of interesting search phrases that I’m sure whoever looks through them will wonder “why did Kory need to know how an octopus poops?”
There’s very little outward difference between the males and females of this species, with most of the differences being in internal anatomy. I didn’t draw any of the reproductive organs on here, but the males would have a hectocotylus (look at me I know the fancy word for “wang tentacle”) while the females have an area in their mantle where eggs are stored.
Completely unnecessary but sometimes when you you have an art block you just gotta sit down and think about crap that doesn’t matter!
