First came the zeitgest. On the same day, 2,250 miles apart, with no foreknowledge of the other’s plans, Chris H. and I both got mohawks.

A few nights later, Kory came over, and we buzzed the sides of her head in my kitchen. The next day, Chris S. joined the ranks.

You can, too. Here’s why you should:

Because it’s a damn good reminder that being a grown-up does not mean that you have to give up stuff that’s silly and fun.

Because it’s waaaay easier to care for and style than your current haircut.

Because you never have.

Because you have and liked it.

Because you’re bored.

Because you want to stick it to the Man.

For Halloween.

All the cool kids are doing it.

While I was not aware of this initially, there is actually already a pretty cool good-cause-affiliated Hawktober, which is to a campaign to raise funds for and awareness of brain tumors and folks affected by them. Mohawks rock, and brain tumors suck, so you really can’t go wrong there.

Need ‘hawkspiration? I recommend Mohawks Rock, which, while populated primarily with fifteen-year-olde suburban punklets (d’awww!) is still home to a reasonably large repository of soundly excellent hair.

If you’re not quite ready to take the full plunge, there are some insanely badass-looking ways to fake mohawks with braids. Check out this lady, who, TRUE FACT, has the exact same hair as my WoW troll (Yes, that’s a compliment. Trolls have the best hair in Azeroth. They are punk as hell).
